ARTSCIENCE INTERFACE

Through experiment, project, exhibition and publication, the Artscience Interface is a new creative domain resulting in the development of new technological resources, intellectual explorations of the interface between the arts and sciences, and the design of publishing, exhibition, and performance projects. This panel discussion will investigate the historical and theoretical underpinnings of Artscience, present project work and introduce the public to the proposal for INCEPTA ? the establishment of an
Artscience pilot research laboratory in Brisbane.

THE ROLE OF INDEPENDENT PUBLICATIONS IN A ONE PAPER TOWN

When you live in a city with only one major newspaper, how important do
publications like street press, independent newspapers and free magazines become? What role do they play ? or should play. Speakers from a selection of indy print media sources discuss their media visions and broadsheet critiques.

FASHION IN THE BAG!

Fashion in the bag! is a fun challenge disguised as a workshop. Each participant is given a bag with an assortment of different design materials that they must then use to construct something, anything! By learning to use what we already have and not what has to be bought we can not only save money but often come up with far more interesting and exciting designs.

proppaNOW Aboriginal artists collective is a dedicated group of individuals whose urban expression questions the position that is ascribed to boriginal
people and culture within Australia. This panel will discuss the beginning of the collective, their projects and recognitions and explore themes such as urban expression, notions of national and cultural identity and space based on Aboriginal identity. The collective will also speak on their individual artistic practices in relation to the Brisbane, national and international contemporary art scenes.

Where have all the artist-run spaces gone??? This panel will take a look at
some Brisbane?s past artist-run initiatives (Soapbox), present artist run
spaces and projects (Local Art), and will introduce a future new media space that will be opening at Metro Arts, The Projection Room. Looking at how to set up and run an independent space, types of funding available for these initiatives, and the role of artists as curators / directors, this session is a must-see for anyone with an interest in artist-run spaces ? or plans to start one themselves!

developers in local communities around the world. This new chapter of the IGDA seeks to bring together game developers in the greater Brisbane area, including the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. This year's SOOB festival will run from December 2nd to 12th across multiple venues in and around Fortitude Valley.

The SOOB Ideas Program will explore issues emerging from Brisbane's intellectual undergrowth, drawing on the energies of young thinkers who don't mind getting their hands (and minds) dirty putting great ideas into action.

This year's program is all about uncovering emerging public thinkers & letting them loose on 2004's most interesting issues. A jam-packed program of workshops, screenings, hypotheticals, creative collaborations, debates, rants & panels will take place over the first four days of SOOB. We encourage you to plan ahead so you can attend the whole thing!

The SOOB Ideas Program runs from the 2nd to the 5h of December. You can find out more here and the draft program will be released this week.

Free! Send us a summary of an idea, project or cause you would like to promote through the media, & then take part in a 2-hour workshop with 'experts' helping you develop a media strategy.

The workshop leaders will then be available for follow-up email feedback on your press releases, op-ed pieces, etc. This is a pretty unique opportunity - there will be one workshop leader for every three to four people attending - giving you a chance to access tailored advice & assistance on communicating your message to a wider audience.
